LO1: P2 Planning

Purpose:

The purpose of the my shoot is to take 10 pictures of 'beautiful Doncaster'. The shots which I have been asked/ can to include is portraits, landscapes, abstract, urban/rural shots to showcase the positive sides of Doncaster. However, when taking these images I will need to ensure I comply with all laws and consider the health and safety as well as the ethics that will be involved with the shoot and edit.

1: The yellow Y near the Rossington roundabout, using a telephoto lens to get a close up of the Y from being far away for health and safety reasons.

2: 3 of my images will be a triptych of different graffiti around Doncaster. I will use 15-18mm lens to create these landscape shots

5: photo of a moving train at the train station using a slow shutter speed to show movement of the train with a wide angle, with a 15-18mm lens

6: under view shot of a brick wall with moss growing on it or with a ladybird crawling on it. portrait 8mm lens

7: photo of lakeside through a pair of sunglasses, the shot in the sunglasses are clear but the background isn't

8: low angle of Conisbrough castle using a telephoto lens in black and white to show that the castle is timeless as well as using the golden ration rule

9: Conisbrough viaduct - down the side of the viaduct cutting into the middle of the shot.

10: a photo of a water fountain with a low shutter speed to catch the movement of the water with on the fountain in focus and the background blurred. using a 15-18mm lens

To take my own images for my photography project I am going to have to use my own models, because of this I will need to have a model release form, as my image could be potentially be published on to the web. This is needed so both the photographer and the model know when and where the photos are being used and what content surrounds the image. A model release form gives the photographer the right to have access to images of that specific person.

When taking images in public I need to make sure that I follow the legal and ethical constraints. As long as it is in public land it isn't illegal to the images or record members of the public, however if you re on private land you then need to get the owner of the lands permission. Ethical consideration that I will need to consider is taking images of minors as it goes against ethical photography as it can be seemed wrong even if its in public. I will also make sure that I don't capture images like Bruce Gillman because he purposely gets close into peoples faces to get images of peoples faces. In the images you can clearly see the shock and chaos in the peoples face as well as what is going on behind them, which is unethical as it is disrespectful and unsettling to models in the photos. To avoid any issues I will ask members of the public is they would mind being photographed and if not then not take an image at that certain time, to respect their privacy.

To make my photography look the best quality and to a professional standard I will take the shots on a Canon 250 SLR. On this camera you can easily adjust the camera settings like the ISO, aperture and the shutter speed. I will also use a tripod so that there is a steady portioned finish, whereas if I was to use my hands to hold the camera the images could be shaky and would potentially blur the images giving them a non professional finish. I will also use a range of lenses depending on what shots I'm going to take.

Telephoto lens - these lenses are used to make the image your taking the photo of appear closer than what it is. Typically used for photos of portraits or street photography. This will help with the health and safety of some of my shots. E.g. when taking an image of the yellow why it is placed on a main road roundabout so it would be too dangerous to cross the busy road to get to therefore in this case I would use a telephoto lens.

Standard lens - these produce images which are roughly the same as what the human eye sees, so it gives the image a natural look. They are used to create naturalistic, grounded or portrait images.

The software which I will use to edit my photos is Adobe Lightroom as it is easier to edit photos on than photoshop as it it well suited for the edit of personal photography. Lightroom uses non-destructive editing,  meaning you can change and edit an image without altering the original file. As the images will be taken as RAW files, to get the best quality images, you can gain more flexibility when editing without loosing the original data.

I will need to budget for the travel cost when taking these images. This is because I will need to think of fuel costs when driving to these specific areas as they are all over Doncaster, and could become expensive if I take photos of one place then go somewhere else but then need to travel back to the similar spot to get another image, which then also becomes time consuming.

Below is a risk assessment to outline the potential hazards which could occur when taking shots whether its too people around or property which is being used.
